원/달러, 반도체 수출 호조에 1.90원 하락

10월 8일 원/달러 환율은 전 거래일(7일)보다 1.90원 하락한 1,338.50원에 주간 거래를 마쳤다. 주간 종가 기준 9월 9일(1,336.10원) 이후 가장 낮은 수준이다.

환율은 반도체 수출 호조로 원화 강세에 진입했다. 반도체 수출로 외화를 벌어들인 국내기업들이 원화로 바꾸는 물량이 이어져 환율은 장중 1,336.30원까지 하락했다. 9월 무역수지 흑자는 498억5000만달러로 역대 최대를 경신했다.

다만, 달러 가치도 오르면서 환율 하락폭은 크지 않았다. 미국 연방준비제도가 10월 7일(현지시간) 공개한 9월 연방공개시장위원회(FOMC, 미국 기준금리를 정하는 회의) 의사록에서 연내 추가 금리 인상 가능성을 재확인했기 때문이다. 이날 외국인은 코스피에서 주식 2조4406억원어치를 순매도하며 환율 하락폭이 제한됐다.

The Korean won closed daytime trading at 1,338.50 per U.S. dollar on Oct. 8, down 1.90 won from the previous session on Oct. 7. It was the lowest daytime close since Sept. 9, when the rate ended at 1,336.10 won.

Strong semiconductor exports lifted the won. Korean companies that earned foreign currency from chip sales kept converting it into won, pushing the rate as low as 1,336.30 won during the session. Korea posted a record trade surplus of $49.85 billion in September.

The won's gains were limited, however, as the dollar also strengthened. Minutes of the U.S. Federal Reserve's September Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, released on Oct. 7 (local time), reaffirmed the possibility of another rate hike this year. Foreign investors also sold a net 2.44 trillion won worth of shares on the KOSPI, which capped the won's advance.
